EAR WAX SUCTIONING

Ear Wax Suctioning

Wax Removal by Micro Suction at Ears Unplugged

Micro suction is the removal of ear wax and ear debris from the ear canal with the use of a small medical suction machine.  A small tube is fitted to the suction device that allows wax to be removed like a gentle vacuum clean.   A microscope attached to the suction machine allows our ear nurse to see inside the ear canal, making this procedure the safest way to remove wax or debris.

The procedure is quick (usually 15 minutes) and our ear nurse will explain everything and answer any questions you may have.  You will be sitting upright and can communicate throughout.

Ear Wax Interesting Facts

  • Ear wax is normal and everyone produces some, but the amount and consistency varies a lot between people.
  • Ear wax, or cerumen, is the natural secretion from the ceruminous and sebaceous glands, mixed with dead skin cells and hair.
  • Ear wax is formed in the outer portion of the ear canal and has a protective function, making the ear canal antimicrobial and waterproof.
  • Ear wax should slowly migrate out of your ear, but this doesn't always happen due to ear shape, drier wax, hairy canals, use of cotton buds and wearing of hearing aids and ear plugs.
  • Symptoms of problematic wax build up can include reduced hearing, a blocked or full feeling, earache, jaw ache, itchiness, pain, tinnitus and vertigo (dizziness).
